Abstract :
Lateral spin valves, also known as nonlocal spin valves (NLSV), are mesoscopic structures where pure spin currents can be generated, transported over a distance, and detected as clear voltage signals. Due to the unique separation of the spin injector and the spin detector in laterally separated materials stacks, NLSV has been proposed as ultra-high density read head sensors to replace the standard spin valve read head sensors fabricated as single materials stacks. [1] In addition to magnetic recording applications, the lateral structures also provide a platform for novel memory and logic devices.
