Abstract :
A new inductive sensor which uses saddle coils to generate a uniform magnetic field for metal particle detection is proposed in this study. This sensor aims to detect metal particles as small as a diameter of 50 μm in a 10 mm diameter oil tube. The magnetic flux density and eddy current distributions of a Cu particle are determined. Experimental measurements and finite element analysis are performed to examine the performance of the inductive sensor.
