Abstract
This paper presents an improved low-speed axial-flux-modulated(AFM) magnetic-geared permanent magnet in-wheel motor with high torque density for electric vehicles (EVs). In the original AFM motor, there are two air-gaps between the stator and the special iron segments. The improved motor has only one air-gap between them. The performances of the proposed motor are compared with the radial-flux-modulated motor(RFMM) and the original axial-fux-modulated motor(AFMM) which has two air-gaps, using the finite element method(FEM).The result shows that the out torque of the improved motor is larger than its countpart by 15%.
