Abstract :
The ability to write effectively and coherently in English is an ability students should master and an increasing number of enterprises regard as a must during their recruitment of employees. However, the teaching and learning of writing in English is not as satisfactory currently in most of universities and colleges in China. Although mobile technology has been adopted in education for in the past decades to facilitate the teaching process and improve the teaching efficiency, few examples are seen in the teaching and learning of writing in English. In this paper, the author conducts a questionnaire among all students in the international joint educational programs in Wuhan Polytechnic. Through the questionnaire, problems faced by students in the writing process in terms of vocabulary, grammar, ideas development, interests, writing sharing, teachers, class structures and learning materials are identified and the feasibility of adopting mobile technology in the teaching and learning of English writing is also proved. Finally, based on the process-oriented approach of writing, the author proposes several instructional implications to adopt mobile technology in the teaching and learning of English writing.
