Abstract :
To pave the way for higher penetration of wind turbines in the power grid, it is necessary to improve efficiency of wind energy conversion systems in terms of production rate maximization and operational cost minimization. In turn, with available technologies, this calls for advanced control strategies in wind industry. In this article, some basic concepts related to the control of wind turbines are introduced, a control-theoretic categorization is proposed, the literature of wind turbine control is briefly surveyed, and some challenges in the control of wind turbines are determined from the literature at the end.
