Abstract :
With the increase of wireless radio terminals such as mobile phones, there are also increasing concerns about the risk of the human health owing to electromagnetic exposures from such communication devices. Previously, we have evaluated the specific absorption rate (SAR) for pregnant females and their fetuses when the wireless radio terminals were only placed in front of the abdomen of the pregnant females. Therefore, in this study, we estimated the SAR for pregnant females and their fetuses at 13th, 18th, and 26th gestational weeks when the wireless radio terminals were placed various positions around the abdomen in consideration of the mobile phone in the pocket or bag. As the results, we found fetal SARs from the terminal in front of the abdomen are approximately a thousand times higher than those around the back at a maximum. In addition, all calculated SARs are below the safety guideline set by the International Commission for Non-ionizing Radiation Protection.
