Abstract
One of important and difficult issues in power saving is how to determine the most appropriate sleep window timing and size for unpredictable non-real-time traffic. This paper proposes an almost overhead-free dynamic sleep window adjusting policy (D-SWAP) for mobile communication systems. Based on monitoring downlink traffic patterns, it adopts the concept of round-trip-time (RTT) estimation in TCP to enable base station and mobile station to autonomously adjust the sleep window timing and size. The performance evaluation shows that the proposed D-SWAP can concurrently satisfy the requirements of the trade-off problem between power saving and packet delay.
