Abstract
The magnetically insulated line oscillator is a preferred crossed-field microwave device designed specifically to generate gigawatt-level microwave. The primary characteristic of the MILO is that it requires no externally applied magnetic field to insulate the electron flow under the SWS. The self-insulating property, inherent in magnetically insulated lines, allows the device to handle an extremely large input power (tens of gigawatts) without ensuing electrical breakdown of the anode-cathode gap. At present, investigation of MILO is focused on L-band, S-band and C-band MILO. The X-band MILO is rarely investigated. In addition, the present models of X-band MILO main exist two deficiencies, namely, low efficiency and anode plasma formation in the load region. Therefore we are motivated to study an X-band MILO. An high-efficiency X-band MILO is presented and investigated numerically in this paper, which can improve the power conversion efficiency through particle simulation as well as eliminate or at least minimize anode plasma formation in the load region.
