Abstract
Summary form only given. Current gun technology uses solid propellants that consist of small geometrically similar grains which are ignited by a primer. Propellant burn characteristics are determined by a combination of the chemical propellant itself and grain geometry. The ballistic characteristics of a preformed cartridge cannot be changed in real time. Thus, varying applications require the use of different projectiles, propellants, and launch systems.
