Abstract :
Satellite communication is widely deployed because of its wide coverage. However, satellite links show very poor TCP performances because of its disadvantages such as very long round trip time, high packet loss rate and limited bandwidths. In this paper, we suggest the Performance Enhancing Proxy (PEP) solution applied with 3-segment splitting. On top of that, we also apply the Token Bucket Filter (TBF) algorithm into our PEP solution to improve TCP fairness. The performance analysis is performed in a real test-bed and proves that 3-segment splitting based PEP solution can improve TCP throughput over satellite environments. Furthermore, our TBF algorithm is effective for improving TCP fairness and ensuring TCP throughput.
