Abstract
DSM is seen as a promising solution for problems in the electrical grid resulting from the rising integration of fluctuating renewable energy sources. This paper presents a valuation method for the potential of demand side management using heat supply systems in residential buildings. Therefore DSM is compared to the use of an electrical energy storage. Results show that a significant reduction of the needed storage size can be achieved in the evaluated scenarios just by controlling the heat supply systems in an optimal way. Furthermore the impact of changes in the forecast of a rolling horizon in the optimized resource scheduling is evaluated within this paper.
