  • Abstract
    Amid real-time traffic monitoring in urban areas, failures for road condition judgment can be occurred due to the difficulties for information collection arising from the delay at signalized intersection and complicated model calculation. The road condition calculation approach proposed in this paper is based on the simplified road network model to collect periodically (e.g.: At every five minutes), by using the in-car GPS, the average transit time which can be utilized to stand for the road congestion information. The characteristics of the simplified road network model include that (1) one single road shall have more than one weight value and different weight value represents the average transit time that vehicles run across the road from different directions, (2) ring road and overpass become an abstraction for a node (can be regarded as a common intersection).
