IEEE awards the IEEE Milestones to honor historically important contributions to electrical engineering and computing. Similarly, the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan (IEEJ) recognizes important contributions to the development of electrical engineering in Japan through its annual One Step on Electro-Technology Awards (see Figure 1). These awards were introduced in 2008 to celebrate the 120th anniversary of IEEJ. They recognize objects or places of technological, social, academic, or educational significance invented, discovered, conducted, or developed more than 25 years ago, and/or the people associated with such advances.
