Abstract :
This work proposes to combine the use of two different types of elements in a classical array synthesis problem to provide an additional and convenient degree of freedom. The use of two types of simple and small radiating elements with totally different radiation patterns (we can consider them as “orthogonal”) can bring some advantages for array synthesis. Among them, in this approach, we show how it allows a tilting of the radiation beam without using phase shifters. To this aim, a thinned array scheme is employed; and the results are corroborated with a particular design which has been simulated including mutual coupling between elements.
