Abstract
LCD column drivers have traditionally used nonlinear R-string style digital-to-analog converters (DAC). This paper describes an architecture that uses 840 linear charge redistribution 10/12-bit DACs to implement a 420-output column driver. Each DAC performs its conversion in less than 15 μs and draws less than 5 μA. This architecture allows 10-bit independent color control in a 17 mm2 die for the LCD television market.
