Abstract :
The articles in this special issue focus on selected papers presented at the OFC/NFOEC 2014 Conference, which took place in March in San Francisco, CA, USA. The contents of this Special Issue reflect the rapid progress taking place in the field and the broad area focus of the OFC/NFOEC conference covering all aspects of optical communications. Many papers cover modulation formats, SDM, and spectrum management for efficient, high-capacity, long, and short reach transport. Use of InP and Silicon photonic integration to implement optical transmission functions is highlighted in this issue. Emerging dynamic networking technologies,such as SDN, are also addressed in this issue.
