Abstract :
Dr. K. Inoue, in ibid., vol. 28, no. 4, p. 883, 1992, calculated the polarization properties of four-wave mixing in a low-birefringent fiber by treating the fiber as a random concatenation of M pieces of polarization-maintaining fiber. Though the final result is very elegant, his derivation is rather lengthy. We present a short derivation of his equation by considering the evolution of polarization in low-birefringent fiber as a diffusion process, and calculating the probability density function of the Jones matrix for the first time
