Abstract
The conceptual ideas and design features of a low cost digital signal processor intended for data acquisition/filtering and decision/control in telecommunications are discussed. The speed, lowcost and flexibility of the processor appear as a result of a mixed firmware/software architecture used in conjunction with a multi-level distribution of processing. The system is easily reprogrammable by replacing the appropriate ROM IC´s.
