Abstract :
We have realized a photonic bandgap structure with a linear lattice of 36 periods, with each period consisting of two microrings. This configuration relieves some current stringent fabrication requirements. The microrings were fabricated in benzocyclobutene. As a bandstop filter, the lattice has a low transmission loss of 3 dB, a wide bandgap of 1.6 nm, and a maximum extinction of 25 dB even with weak coupling to the microrings
