Abstract :
The CREG concept extends the loop signaling and transmission range of No. 1/1A and No. 2/2B ESS to 2800 Ω. This is accomplished by embedding range extension and gain circuits in the B -links of the ESS networks behind the first stage of switching concentration. The 2800 Ω design limit for loops permits greatly increased use of lower cost, fine gauge cables. Loops up to 33 from the central office can be served with all 26 gauge facilities. Placing the range extension equipment in the ESS network takes advantage of the switching system\´s inherent concentration to reduce the effective range extension cost per treated line by a factor approaching 75 percent.
