Abstract :
A novel broadband tunable laser diode is presented. It is based on a codirectional coupling scheme which is predicted to yield tuning ranges larger than 50 nm. Only a single control current is required for tuning. Preliminary devices have been realised indicating a wavelength tuning over 30 nm.
