Abstract :
David Weight, a senior consultant at AECOM, released a paper outlining ambitious plans to build a large canal with electrical power down the spine of Britain. With a construction price tag of some £14bn, the multi-functional canal would transfer water from the Scottish Borders to the south of England, offer a sustainable alternative to road and rail freight, and eventually co-exist with high voltage DC lines.
