Abstract :
Applications of 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy to the study of ferromagnetic amorphous alloys are discussed. Typical Mössbauer spectra of the amorphous Fe83Si9B8 alloy were compared with those obtained from ordered and disordered crystalline ferromagnets, Fe3Si, which show distinct hyperfine fields depending on the atomic environments in the lattice. Thermal scanning was applied to determine the Curie temperature of amorphous ferromagnets and proved to be useful. Conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy (CEMS) makes it possible to study the surface states of the amorphous alloys. Simultaneous measurements of scattering and transmission Mössbauer spectra are presented using the work performed for amorphous Fe83P5C12 alloy. The benefits of using Mössbauer spectroscopy with a linearly polarized ¿-ray source are demonstrated by the work of Gonser et al., showing that the spin-texture of amorphous ribbon changes drastically under the action of external tensile stress.
