Abstract :
The fabrication of a monolithic wavelength-flattened 1*4 singlemode fibre coupler is reported. The device is fabricated using fused fibre technology by tapering an assembly consisting of four standard fibres and three ´dummy´ fibres inserted into a tight fitting capillary tube. The maximum insertion loss is better than 6.8 dB over the complete wavelength range 1.25-1.6 mu m.
