Abstract :
The effect of the in-plane orientation of the [001] axis ¿ on the sheet thickness dependences of the loss and magnetostriction in ultra-thin silicon steel sheets is discussed. Power losses were seen to decrease with the sheet thickness in the range 0.3 to 0.06 mm; however, increases with thickness are small for ¿ 2° compared with ¿ = 0°. The magnetostriction, which is the source of iron core noise, was also found to decrease when the sheet thickness was decreased.
