Abstract :
The generation of magnetoelastic waves in the 10 GHz band, through the application of parallel RF and DC magnetic fields at the surface of a highly magnetostrictive ferromagnetic sample is reported. Excitation and detection cavities were used to generate and detect magntoelastic waves. The magnetic field dependences of signals from both cavities were measured, and propagation characteristics were determined by the pulse transmission method, for both the H¿,¿ and the H¿,¿ modes. Using a Fe78Si10B12 amorphous film sample, a transmitted signal was detected near the resonance field, propagating in the H¿,¿ mode at 4 × 103 m/s, which corresponds to an elastic wave. The nature of the phenomenon is as yet unclear.
