Abstract :
Since 1987, comprehensive hypervelocity projectile development and test programs have been demonstrating the potential benefits of electromagnetic gun weapons systems as counters to evolving threats. Results to date indicate that electromagnetic-gun-launched hypervelocity projectiles should survive both the inbore and flight environments associated with 2.0 and 4.0 km/s launch velocities, while improving terminal effects. The status of unguided hypervelocity projectile development, specific electromagnetic gun/projectile interface issues, and test results obtained from both 9 MJ single-shot electromagnetic guns are discussed
