Abstract
A device for magneto-optical disk evaluation, employing a constant linear velocity (CLV) disk rotating system and small lightweight optical head, is described. The evaluator can be used to record and reproduce signals in a CD format, and to measure frame error rates. Relations between the linear velocity and the frame error rate, and between the error rate and the minimum bit length, were determined for TbFeCo-PMMA disks. Results indicated that error rates deteriorated rapidly for minimum bit lengths below 1.5 ¿m, in agreement with observed changes in eye patterns.
