Abstract :
A fibre optic electric field sensing technique based on a fibre to planar waveguide coupling structure has been demonstrated for the measurement of fields up to 10 MV/m and beyond, with a resolution of 10 kV/m and <1% linearity. A simple model enabling performance analysis is proposed and good agreement is observed between theory and experiment. The device is formed directly on the address fibre without its interruption thus avoiding the fibre to device interfacing difficulties of other technologies
