Abstract :
Previous garnet film transfer readout methods suffered from drawbacks such as transfer domain disorder and slow response. Here a new type of transfer readout method, in which the domains of garnet film are formed into parallel stripes and the garnet film is placed close to the recording medium, so that leakage flux from the latter changes the garnet domain widths, which are detected by a laser readout beam. In experiments, signals recorded at 5 MHz and various recording currents were read out as expected, with transfer domains changing continuously with the recording current. The new method seems to be feasible for use in high-speed response narrow-track readout.
