Abstract :
Erasing characteristics of magneto-optical media (thick TbFe film formed by triode RF sputtering on grooved plastic, with an SiO2 protective layer) are reported. Three disks, with varying Tb concentrations, coercivities and other properties, were used in experiments. Conditions for erasing prerecorded signals were determined for each of these disks; erasing was possible at the same power as writing (4 mW) for two of the disks. It was concluded that disks with a large coercive force yield more favorable erasing characteristics, while composition is not directly related.
