Abstract
A number of thin-film magnetic heads with different pole shapes were constructed, and the resulting differences in performance were investigated. The lower poles of prototype heads had protrusions extending toward the medium surface, and positioned differently for different heads. Results indicated that such protrusions act both to reduce negative depressions in reproduced waveforms, and to enable a satisfactory recording density characteristic with less pronounced undulations.
