Open call [Editor´s Note]

For the IEEE Network January/February 2014 issue, it includes eight accepted open call articles as follows. The first article, ??BASA: Building Mobile Ad-hoc Social Networks on Top of Android?? by Daqiang Zhang et al., proposes a detailed solution called BASA which could help in rapidly building local mobile ad-hoc social networks on top of the current Android platform. BASA establishes a four-layer system architecture and is implemented in an EU project named ??SOCITIES.?? The prototype shows that BASA is flexible to expedite various services. The second article, ??An Enhanced Public Key Infrastructure to Secure Smart Grid Wireless Communication Networks?? by Daojing He et al., first identifies the security requirements of smart grid communication networks, and then introduces some novel mechanisms so that those security requirements can be met. In particular, the article proposes a mechanism to efficiently resist Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks, and provides suggestions to the security protocol design for different application categories. One of the most important aspects in collaborative spectrum sensing is the data fusion algorithm which combines the sensing results. However, plenty of factors may affect the performance of certain data fusion rule. The third article, ??Optimal Data Fusion of Collaborative Spectrum Sensing under Attack in Cognitive Radio Networks?? by Yifeng Cai et al., first introduces framework, and then evaluates the data fusion rules in different scenarios through simulation examples. Finally, a Genetic Algorithm based optimal scheme is proposed to achieve better performance in all scenarios.
