Abstract :
Large changes in the velocity of magnetoelastic waves (MEWs) with a small bias field can be realized only in media with a high magnetostriction and high permeability, such as certain Fe-based amorphous materials. However, as the latter are highly conductive, a new theoretical analysis of MEW propagation in a thin magneto-strictive conductor, which takes micro-eddy current losses into account, is presented. A matrix formulation together with appropriate boundary conditions yields the MEW dispersion relation, which is solved by numerical calculations. Results indicate that controllable changes in MEW velocity are accompanied by propagation losses.
