Abstract :
To investigate the magnetic properties of Ni-Fe system alloys in varying states of atomic disorder, samples with compositions near that of Ni3Fe were either cooled slowly or were quenched from various temperatures, and the maximum permeability in the [111], [110], and [100] directions measured. The results for fully ordered samples and samples quenched from 560°C in all three directions, and for the permeability in the [111] direction as a function of annealing temperature, are presented. For all compositions, but particularly that at 80% Ni, the permeability is highest in samples quenched from around 600°C.
