Abstract :
The demand for high density magnetic disk drives is increasing. Thin film media, such as plated disks, sputtered metallic disks and sputtered ferrite disks, have been developed for use as such high density recording media. The technology developed for plated disks and sputtered metallic disks is outlined. Production processes, magnetic properties, reliability and high density recording characteristics of these disks are discussed. The advantages and potential of such media for recording at higher densities are demonstrated.
