  • Abstract
Ocean spectral peaks extracted from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery exhibit a wavenumber rotation and shift relative to the true peaks due to attenuation of the high azimuth wavenumbers. The authors develop an approximate analytical model allowing a correction to the rotation and shift of SAR spectral peaks. This model maybe useful for spectral peak correction when R/V ⩽60 s whereas; for R/V>60 s, a portion of the wave images are strongly nonlinear for which this model is not valid
