Abstract :
Results of investigations involving calculations using the finite element method and experiments to determine the magnetic saturation during writing for both closed-circuit configuration single-sided heads and open-circuit configuration separated type heads are reported. The single-sided head reaches the same magnetic flux density as the separated-type head at approximately 1/3 the recording current, and the single-sided head has almost three times the recording efficiency of the separated-type head. In the single-sided head magnetic flux density within the media is restricted by magnetic saturation within the closed magnetic circuit.
