Abstract :
A modified version of the Thurlings method, compensated for fluctuations in magnetization direction and magnetic powder filling density, is used as a theoretical formalization of modulation noise in magnetic recording media which is considered to be generated by magnetization direction variation in the transition region. The results of the simulation are compared with actual measurements on thin-film media. Close correspondence was found between calculations and actual measurements of modulation noise in magnetic thin-film media, showing an increase with respect to recording density at a rate of 3 dB/Oct. under saturated recording.
