Abstract
Unusually wide spacing between two-track magnetic heads of various shapes and a video floppy disk media for still images was simulated to determine how it can be reduced by altering the form of the head to provide the stable, small spacing required in magnetic recording. The system of simultaneous equations, consisting of the lubrication equation for head and medium and the medium deformation and motion equations, was solved using the finite element method. It was found that having a groove more than 2 ¿m deep and more than 5 ¿m wide in the sliding surface is effective in reducing the spacing.
