Abstract
The Class E power amplifier has very high drain efficiency under quasi-static conditions, and is a good candidate for EER or polar techniques. The load presented by the PA to the high level amplitude modulator can be modelled by an equivalent circuit. This allows the modulation frequency response and excess switch dissipation to be calculated. It is found that the feed choke and the finite Q of the output circuit interact to form a second order low pass filter. Reasonable agreement with measured data is seen.
