Abstract :
Fabrication of Nd-Co compositionally modulated thin films with strong magnetization and high anisotropy were studied. Nd thickness was fixed while the Co thickness was varied. It was found that saturation magnetism was the same as that for amorphous films, but Ku¿ was not the same, samples with high Nd content showing high anisotropy. At room temperature anisotropy of samples with Nd/Co of 1 : 2 is low and the film shows in-plane magnetization, but at 77 K the film is perpendicularly magnetized.
