Abstract :
Nonuniform flux distributions in amorphous toroidal cores can result in anomalous eddy current losses. Amorphous toroidal cores were excited (by a sinusoidal magnetic flux) and the resulting core losses and local flux distributions measured. Though the overall core flux was sinusoidal, the local flux distribution was distorted, and the distortion is thought to cause the 1.5 times greater eddy current loss than for sinusoidal flux at 50 Hz. This would explain the large anomaly factor in part using Pry and Bean´s model, assuming domain widths in agreement with measured values.
