Abstract :
In an effort to bring the world of computing to third world countries, Indian-based Simputer Trust has developed a low-cost handheld device. Called Simputer (simple, inexpensive, multilingual computer), the device offers various easy-to-use applications, including banking and data collection. Simputer uses speech-to-text technology and a user interface based on sight, touch, and sound, so literacy isn??t a prerequisite for its use. The primary application interface is a browser that can render the Information Markup Language, a new XML application from Simputer Trust.
