Abstract :
New services using moving pictures will be rapidly increasing within a few years. In a first analysis, they can be classified into three main categories: one-way broadcasted services; one-way video request services; and two-way interactive services. An important issue in their success is the cost of furnishing them. A SAFO project was undertaken to examine such service offerings, utilizing optical fiber and digital technologies. This paper describes the progress made to date by SAFO.
