Abstract
The effect of Al addition on the deterioration of TbFeAl films is discussed. Oxidation of films with no protective layer was observed at temperatures between 100° and 200° C. Variation in the transmittance was attributed to the varying thickness of the oxidation layer. No pinholes were observed. The addition of Al to TbFe film reduces room temperature oxidation by a factor of 107.
