Abstract :
Design and operation of an amorphous spike-reduction saturable core used in a half wave rectifier circuit was studied in the high-frequency waveband of a 100 kHz operating frequency. It was found that the reverse current flowing through the circuit is controlled by the core exciting current, and that the core absorbs the spike and is reset. Reset flux was also found resulting in extremely low reduction in forward direction load current due to the flyback flux. However it was established that it is possible to determine the number of turns of the core coil to achieve the desired spike reduction.
