Abstract :
The residual magnetic flux distribution in mild steel subjected to magnetization and demagnetization by electromagnets was analyzed from the hysteresis loops, determined using the finite-element method, to find the optimum demagnetizing conditions. It was found that as demagnetizing time increases the demagnetizing effect improves and that when the mild steel was demagnetized under an attenuating alternating field, it was found that the demagnetizing effect optimal frequency is in the neighborhood of 20 Hz.
