Abstract :
This article addresses a number of problems that plague the designers and developers of network performance monitors, due to the nature of the data made available by the agents in the devices of interest. It is hoped that by offering the perspective of a performance monitor designer and bringing these issues to light, we might influence future agents to present data that is a little more accommodating to the needs of performance monitoring
