Abstract
An alternate method for the development of the bus admittance matrix in a network containing mutual couplings is presented. The approach incorporates graph-theoretic concepts to arrive at a hybrid matrix representation for the network, and also illustrates how reduced-order matrices may be used to simplify the problem of accounting for mutual coupling. The presentation is primarily directed toward the illustration of teaching tools which enhance the understanding of the bus admittance matrix, the effects of mutual coupling, and the use of network reduction and equivalencing
